Glenn McConnell
Council Member Emeritus

Glenn was born in Bronx NYC, considers himself from Columbus, OH, and is currently residing in University Place, WA.   He has decades of experience with NIFA - coaching at Ohio State University from 1986-1997, serving on NIFA Council beginning in 1991, chairing the Rules Committee 1999-2008, and leading as Council Chair 2008-2016.

Professionally, Glenn is now a writer after dedicating his career to aviation education.  He holds ATP-AMEL, Commercial - ASEL, Gold Seal CFI, CFII, & MEI certificates, is type rated in the CE-500, and served as an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner.  He held the position of Director of Flight Education and Chief Flight Instructor at Ohio State University and the NetJets Flight School, while also serving as aviation safety Adjunct Professor at Ohio University and Consultant/President for Aerosafe, Inc.  In addition to his collegiate and Part 141 experience, Glenn has been on various aviation advisory boards, and served as the Vice President and Director of Operations of the National Association of Flight Instructors.  Glenn is the deserving recipient of awards such as 1990 & 1993 NIFA Coach of the Year, 1999 Great Lakes Region FAA Flight Instructor of the Year, and 1990 All Ohio Safety and Health Congress Award of Merit for Contributions to Flight Instruction.  He has lectured at hundreds of safety seminars and ground schools throughout the U.S. and abroad, taught Instrument Flight Operations at the FBI National Academy in Quantico, written curriculum and started a Part 141 flight school, was responsible for organizing the first NAFI conference, coordinated university internships with United Airlines, and orchestrated FAA approval for the first totally automatic weather reporting system certified for use under instrument flight rules.

Glenn has been a flight instructor since 1972, and while he’s always enjoyed the flying part…he’s ALWAYS LOVED the TEACHING part. Best classroom in (& above) the world! That’s why he has never left actively teaching.
