Marty resides in Grand Rapids, MI.   He competed for Western Michigan University from 1999-2002, and coached at Ohio State University from 2007-2010 and Western Michigan University from 2010-2021.  He has judged since 2005 and served as Region III Chief Judge in 2009.

Professionally, Marty is a Aerial Firefighting Pilot for AeroFlite Inc. on the RJ-85AT; he is also a Simulator Instructor and Safety Officer.  He holds ATP, Commercial ASEL & ASES, CFI, CFII, MEI, and Remote Pilot certificates and is type rated in the AVR-146, BAE-146, EMB-505, ERJ-170, and ERJ-190.

Marty enjoys being the caretaker of a 1955 Cessna 180 with his better-half, Emily.
