Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need to buy a NIFA Team Membership?

In order for your team to attend and/or compete a regional or national SAFECON, your team must be paid and registered as a team membership.

Does this allow my team members to compete?

No, each individual team member must hold a current “student membership” to compete in a regional or national SAFECON.

Does a team membership qualify my team to compete at the national SAFECON?

No, you must first qualify for the national SAFECON by competing in your regional SAFECON and then receiving an invitation from the NIFA Executive Committee to compete at the national SAFECON.

Does a team membership allow me to attend the national SAFECON?

Yes, a team membership allows any member to attend the national SAFECON, but you must have an invitation to COMPETE in the national SAFECON. Attendance is voluntary.

What do my five (5) votes count for?

Annually, the membership of NIFA holds a business meeting which is held in conjunction with the national SAFECON. At this meeting, votes on bylaw changes/additions/subtractions, student representative elections, and following year national SAFECON location are held. Each team has five (5) votes to cast as they see fit for each of the above-mentioned topics, including any additional business that the Council Chair determines warrants a membership vote.

Can I proxy my votes?

Yes, any member can proxy their votes to another member in attendance.
