The National Intercollegiate Flying Association Announces SAFECON 2017 Results

Columbus, OH – The National Intercollegiate Flying Association (NIFA) held the annual national Safety and Flight Evaluation Conference (SAFECON) in Columbus, OH at the Ohio State University Airport, May 9 to 14, 2017. Twenty-seven member schools were in attendance. Three hundred eighty-eight students competed under the direction of eighty-six coaches and advisors, ninety judges, and forty volunteers and airport staff. Six flight events, five ground events, and twelve individual and team events were contested.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Prescott won the National Championship Trophy with 500 total points. Liberty University, Lynchburg received the historic Grover C. Loening Trophy. The American Airlines Safety Award was awarded to Liberty University, Lynchburg. Nick Moore of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Prescott won the Top Pilot trophy with 93 total individual points.
