NIFA and AMA sign MOU to explore collaborative opportunities
The National Intercollegiate Flying Association (NIFA) and the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore collaborative aviation opportunities between the two organizations. Immediate opportunities include developing unmanned aircraft competition events for NIFA that would be compatible with AMA events. AMA currently has competitive unmanned aircraft events such as the annual UAS4STEM National Championship for high school students and the Collegiate Drone UAS4STEM Challenge. The Collegiate Drone UAS4STEM Challenge is designed for participants to learn, practice, and demonstrate professional unmanned aircraft system (UAS) knowledge, mission planning, flight skills, data collection, analysis and safety practices in a competitive environment.
The UAS industry and opportunities for UAS use for commercial purposes are expanding at an increasing rate, providing future opportunities for students who participate in UAS events. NIFA and AMA would like to expand those opportunities to those students.
The National Intercollegiate Flying Association was formed for the purposes of developing and advancing aviation education; to promote, encourage, and foster safety in aviation; to promote and foster communications and cooperation between aviation students, educators, educational institutions and the aviation industry; and, to provide an arena for collegiate aviation competition.
